Once the fun of knitting wore off I needed something to replace the adrenaline produced by choosing yarn color. And so mountain biking became a part of my life. Initially biking was a way to fill non-snowboarding time but this year peddling rivaled my enjoyment on the shred stick. I first began riding at Calgary's Canada Olympic Park (COP) and have spent the last few summers riding the wicked-awesome Whistler Bike Park and Vancouver's North Shore. Now I'm hardpressed to find a better way to spend my time than hitting jumps on my Norco Shore One. And this summer I learned that the mountain bike community usually taps kegs faster than the snow community. Either way, the kegs go fast. Hats off to dirt and snow.

Kevin Pennock
Producer/ Director/ Camera
|
The Ride Guide was founded and created by Kevin Pennock in 1996. Originally from Weyburn, Saskatchewan and Campbell River, B.C., Kevin moved to Calgary, Alberta in 1985 to take a position with the 1988 Calgary Olympic Winter Games. In the early 90's, there were no snowboarding shows on television, so Kevin created a pilot called "Ride Guide" and successfully pitched it to TSN in 1995. Wanting to expand the Ride Guide repertoire, Kevin decided to start a summer version of the "Ride Guide", and focus on mountain biking, which was booming back in the mid 1990's. Again, a pitch was made to TSN, and the rest is history. Now, fourteen years later, Ride Guide Productions will be producing their 375th episode in 2010. When not producing Ride Guide, Kevin is chasing his teenage kids skiing and biking.

Chris Ashley
Director of Post Production and Producer

Born and raised in Kelowna, BC, Chris developed an early passion for sports...skiing at age 2, racing at 5, jumping garbage cans on his BMX at 10, barefooting at 12...windsurfing, mountain biking, wakeboarding...you name it. From the moment he saw his first Warren Miller movie back in the day and later on Greg Stump's "Blizzard of Ahh's", he knew that he had found his calling. After graduating from Vancouver Film School in 1997, Chris went to work for RAP Films in Calgary and edited 13 episodes of the series "Edge". From there he joined Lightroom back in Vancouver working with such clients as Intrawest, Aspen Ski Corporation and Squaw Valley. Not happy with the corporate world, Chris jumped back across the Rockies and joined the Ride Guide in March 2000. With over 125 television episodes to his credit as well as numerous commercials and specialty projects, Chris brings the experience and passion to the job that has enabled him to live a lifestyle others only dream of.

Cory Horton
Camera Operator
|
Growing up in Ardrossan, Alberta, Cory learned to water-ski by the age of 3 and downhill ski by the age of 4. With the lack of mountains on the prairies, he developed his skiing skills behind a ski-doo then progressed into racing and coaching for a local club in Edmonton. Racing downhill in the winter and water-skiing nationally for the Alberta Water Ski Team in the summer he developed a passion for outdoor sports. His interest in shooting action sports began early with his mom's super 8 film camera. Upgrading to one of the first VHS camcorders on the market, Cory put Sony's product warrantee to the test and claims to have shot the first 10lb helmet-cam videotape. After retiring from the competitive side of sports, he attended the Southern Alberta Institute of Technology's television program and landed a job as a cameraman at Calgary 7 Television now known as Global Television Network. In addition to Global Television, Cory has operated as a freelance cameraman shooting different sports projects for outlets such as ESPN, FOX, TSN, CBC, Sportsnet, and OLN. A passion for action sports and an addiction to skiing brought Cory to the Ride Guide in 2000. Cory's skiing ability allows the Ride Guide camera to travel anywhere on the mountain and his obsession for "getting the shot" helps bring all the action to your television.

.um
um.. oh shoot, wait a second wrong website? I grew up in Lone Pine Alberta just outside of Whitecourt. The nearest town was a 25minute drive away, so basically hippies that planted a house in the middle of nowhere razed me! Since there were no movie theaters, bowling alleys, roller rinks or malls where most city folk hang out at I was left with nothing but nature and my imagination. And I would not trade it for anything!!! Ever since I was a kid I couldnt wait till winter came, I would rush out and pile snow until a jump was formed and I would hit it with anything that could find enough speed to get air. Such as cross country skis, GT snow racers, toboggans, crazy carpets and then one year I got a florescent green mogul monster snowboard and thats what started it all! I have loved anything and everything that has to do with adventure sports, so it was natural for me to fall into adventure sport TV when my parents bought our first video camera. I produced, directed, shot and edited with a VCR and a set of RCA cables plugged into a stereo, my own snowboard and ski video at the age of 15. So to have the chance to work with the fabulous crew at Ride Guide and continue to do something I love is a dream come true.

Jonathon Simone
Editor
|
Born deep in the heart of northern Ontario, Jonathon Simone fell in love with snowboarding at a very young age. An important part of his day is spent dreaming about riding. He focuses on the sport for its aesthetics and recreational benefits. From the time Jonathon purchased his first camera he started filming snowboard videos. Jon knew exactly what he wanted to do with his life since the first time he strapped in. From that time on Jonathon spent every weekend at the local ski hills getting involved with organizing events and fundraising for snowboard competitions. All of this was done with the intent of getting the best possible experience out of the art and sport of snowboarding. When Jonathon left high school, he enrolled in the Broadcasting and Television Production program in Thunder Bay to enhance his videography skills and also to follow his dream of producing snowboard videos. After college Jonathon’s only interest in the industry was snagging a job with his favorite television show Ride Guide. The snow gods were on his side and with a bombardment of phone calls to Kevin and Chris they could see the determination and passion in the young man. Jon finally convinced them to give him a shot to prove himself. A year later, Jon is now part of the team and has become the Gilligan of the crew. Known around the office as Jonny Bins, he is apprenticing under Josh and Chris in the trade of creative editing. The young apprentice has lots to learn, but his passionate attitude towards snowboarding gives him the will to push forward.
